President’s Message November 2015

I feel like October just swooshed by us. With the weather being so warm and dry, I feel like Fall has been dragging it’s heels and Summer just wants to hang on. No complaints from me on that except some important things that should have happened in October, didn’t.

Elections & Bylaws

November is a very important month for the club. We have only one meeting – on the 12th because our second one falls on Thanksgiving. Elections take place at this meeting, and by this time, we’re supposed to know who’s running for each office. But we don’t. We are still seeking nominations for President, Vice President and Secretary. Now that really concerns me. If there are no candidates… what then? Our nominating committee chairman this year is Walt Butler, so if you have someone to nominate, please submit nominations to him. Continue reading “President’s Message November 2015”

October Presidents Message

It’s Showtime again! I love October because it means the Portland Regional Gem and Mineral Show is here. This is not only the largest show in the Pacific NW, it’s the best darn show this side of Tucson. There’s something for every interest and our collective metro area clubs really show off the Portland talent pool and the fantastic quality of our collections in the display area. I really look forward to seeing the displays, getting a bargain at the silent auction tables and learning new things at the demo tables, presentation areas and from the Dealers.

It has been my pleasure to serve as President of the Portland Regional for the past two years. The show represents a full year planning and preparing and I look at the work and effort we put in for this years show with a great deal of satisfaction. It’s going to be a great show. You won’t want to miss it.

Now don’t forget, the regular meeting of our club (Thursday the 8th) falls on set-up day, so that meeting is cancelled. Instead, members are asked to come out to the Washington County Fairplex and help with set-up.

I hope everyone from the Tualatin Valley Club will make the effort to not only come out for set-up, but also to get involved in the show. There are plenty of opportunities, from working with the crew at the front door, assisting at the silent auction, helping with kid’s corner, or you can take a few shifts as a show monitor (security). Also, our club is in charge of the R&R room (the break room), so members are encouraged to bring cookies, snacks and other treats to help Gayle Butler, this years chairman, keep the room stocked.

The theme for this years Kids Corner is dinosaurs. If you can donate any plastic dinosaurs for the sales table they’d be grateful. They don’t have to be new, but please make sure they are clean. Continue reading “October Presidents Message”

Don’t forget to come to our meeting, Thursday, November 8, 2012, at the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center (Map) in Forest Grove, Oregon. We will be electing officers for the next year.

The slate of officers to be nominated as our leaders are:

  • President: Mitch Metcalf
  • Vice President: Carl Weaver
  • Secretary/Hy-Grader Editor: Linda Kepford
  • Treasurer: Cyndi Stram
  • Board Members: Jack Graham and Brian True

We are still in need of another Board Member, so if you are interested in volunteering for this position, contact Beverly Berkholtz (nominating committee chair) or use our contact form and we’ll forward it to her.
